Here are descriptions and screenshots of some of the computer stuff I've done:
GroupSharp
A web based application that allows you create shared documents, lists, and databases. The aim is to make collaborating over the web extremely easy.
www.groupsharp.com
TFANYConnect
This past summer I lead the development of a $20,000 directory/intranet system for Teach For America (
www.tfanyconnect.org
). The intranet combines social networking, blogging, file sharing, and content management. It also has powerful access control and administration functionality. It being used by 150 people a day. It was built in Python.
Friendshout.com
Add a shout-out to your MySpace, Xanga, Blog, or any other web page. Call the number on the Friendshout.com home page and record a message. Then when you click the next button on the home page, you will get a piece of HTML that links to an mp3 playback of your message. You can paste this HTML into any web page. Friendshout.com was built with the Asterisk open source PBX server and Python. Update: This project has been retired.
Lanovision
Lanovision allows you to stream video over the local area network. It works just like iTunes music sharing, only for any format of video including DivX and XviD. Learn more at
www.lanovision.com
. Lanovision
was featured
on the front page of the February 10th Yale Daily News and on
Engadget
and
Life Hacker
. Built in wxPython.
Coffeeshop
Coffeeshop is the program I made Sophomore year with help from my roommate to share files with friends. It combined file sharing, a music player, video streaming, photo slideshows and AIM integration all in one program. Here's
my page with more info
. The project is now
retired

Yale - New Haven Teachers Institute
The summer of 2003 I worked with the Yale - New Haven Teachers Institute in guiding them through the process of creating a web site for their new, Yale National Initiative. I helped them select the technologies that they wanted to use and helped them understand what was possible using the web. I built a spider that indexed and made searchable their 1,000+ curriculum units. I also developed a prototype web site that can
be viewed here
.
National Student Partnerships
I built a local database that kept track of all the service providers in New Haven along with all the employers that employed more than twenty workers. The database is built with PHP and MySQL. The database is fully searchable and internet enabled. I created a number of special features such as the ability to save lists of employers, contact management, and others.
I also worked on a national intranet to be used by the fourteen offices across the country. A screenshot can be viewed here:
Here's a screenshot of the intranet
American Governance Project
Was one of my first major web projects. It had a full-fledged link sharing system with multiple levels of categories. I built it to share articles that my friends and I read about politics. It also had a wiki-like engine for collaboratively writing about policy ideas. I never released, it which was too bad, it could have been del.icio.us
