At the Races

On Wednesday we went to the Hong Kong Jockey Club to watch the horse races. This was my first time ever at a horse race. The dizzying array of numbers and terms are difficult enough to understand for a begginer and even harder with the language barrier. I finally managed to place two bets for $50HK each ($7US). Going in to the final stretch one of my horses (#3) was winning. I jumped out of my seat and started cheering. The horses crossed the finish line and #3 was first! Woohee! $500HK! But the horses did not stop. This race was twice as long as the previous one. Subdued, I sat back down and watched them sprint around a second time. #3 still led going into the final stretch again, but this time the other horses broke away and left him behind. Fortunately, one of those horses was #5, the other horse I bet on. In the end I won $175HK (for a net gain of $75HK). Not bad for the first time out . . .
